About the Pattern: Populuxe is based on one of those good ideas that was hiding for ages in my sketchbook, waiting for the right moment. Inspired by midcentury sunburst clocks and mirrors, Populuxe features its own version of the sunburst motif made up out of eyelets, slipped stitches, and mini cables. The sunbursts decorate the back and fronts of this seamless cardigan. It’s worked from the top down, starting with the body. Stitches are picked up around the armhole and shaped using short rows to create seamless set-in sleeves. As well as featuring my favorite construction method, Populuxe also shows off my favorite shape for a cardigan: fitted and cropped with 3/4-length sleeves. The final look is both fresh and retro.
Last Note: I don’t usually have very concept-focused design inspiration, so I can do whatever pops into my head for the pattern styling and photography without considering how it all ties together. This led to a set of photos that were so far from my design inspiration that the description looked silly sitting on the same page. I had to do a reshoot, and I’m happy I did because I had a lot of fun styling it and successfully captured the right mood.
